I'll Remember...2006

2006 Grammy Awards

Madonna opened the 48th Annual Grammy Awards that took place on February 8, 2006 at the Staples Center, with the animated group Gorillaz.  They performed a medley of "Feel Good Inc." and "Hung Up" where first, the Gorillaz performed on screen with a short visit from the real-life De La Soul, then a pre-filmed Madonna joined them. This merged into Madonna performing on stage with her dancers.

Musion Eyeliner System was the holographic projection technology behind the 3D animation. Both the live and TV audiences who watched the performance had no clue that what they were watching at least in the first few minutes of Madonna's performance was just virtual reality.

The Grammys performance was a variation on the MTV Europe Music Awards in Lisbon, with the added attraction of a virtual superstar. Yes, that's right. The Madonna you saw on stage with Gorillaz at the Grammys was a virtual as her cartoon counterparts.

After opening the show, Madonna went backstage to be a guest on the Ellen Degeneres talk show.  It was here that Madonna let the world know that she was going on tour in support of her album, Confessions On a Dancefloor.

Madonna, Mark Stent and Stuart Price won in the category ‘Best Electronic/Dance Album’ for Confessions On A Dance Floor.
