28 years of "Into The Groove"

The song was a commercial success, reaching the top of the charts in Australia, Belgium, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain and the United Kingdom, where it was Madonna's first number-one single. In the United States, the song was only available as the B-side of the 12-inch single of "Angel", therefore it was ineligible to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 according to the rules of the time. By the end of the 1980s, "Into the Groove" was honored by Billboard magazine as the Dance Single of the Decade.

Madonna's inspiration behind the song was the dancefloor, and she wrote it while watching a handsome Puerto Rican man, across her balcony. Initially written for her friend Mark Kamins, Madonna later decided to use it as the soundtrack of her film Desperately Seeking Susan. "Into the Groove" was recorded at Sigma Sound Studios. A remixed version, titled "Into the Hollywood Groove", was created by Madonna in 2003 for a Gap commercial and featured a rap by Missy Elliott. A promotional CD single was given free with any purchase of jeans instore.
I can't help but dance and sing whenever I hear this song.

Someone with actual iconic costumes to show off, unlike Beyonce

Madonna Iconic costumes on view in L.A. for one-night exhibit at Macy's
Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” wedding dress and Jean Paul Gaultier cone-bra corset are two of the iconic costumes in rock ’n’ roll history.

And they were on display to the public in L.A. on Thursday during a one-night-only pop-up fashion exhibit at Macy’s in Century City. The event, titled “Madonna’s Fashion Evolution,” marks the first time many of the star’s costumes have been displayed together.
Items have been brought in from all over the world. The pink satin cone-bra corset (worn during the "Blonde Ambition" tour) was flown in from a museum in Amsterdam. The wedding dress, which Madonna wore at the 1984 MTV Video Music Awards show, is on loan from the Hard Rock Café, and the remaining six costumes were handpicked by the Queen of Pop from her personal archives.
The costumes will be shown alongside styles from Material Girl, the junior fashion line created for Macy's by Madonna and her daughter Lola, which launched in 2010. And Madonna’s longtime costume collaborator, L.A.-based Arianne Phillips, will be on hand for a meet-and-greet.
“The pop-up exhibit at Macy’s perfectly exemplifies the inspiration and spirit of the Material Girl line and will give my fans a great opportunity to see the evolution of my style over the years,” Madonna said in a news release.
Celebrity guests, including Vanessa Hudgens, AnnaSophia Robb, Kat Graham, Michelle Trachtenberg, Ireland Baldwin and others are expected to be on hand at the exhibit.

Madonna Violating Russian Tax and Migration Legislation?

The singer allegedly wasn’t allowed to perform in St Petersburg last August on the type of visa she had.
Eight months after Madonna’s concert at St. Petersburg’s sports and concert center Peterbugrsky, which raised quite a bit of controversy at the time, Russian authorities claim that by giving a commercial performance, the singer violated the terms of her visa.
Last week, Vitaly Milonov, a notorious St. Petersburg legislator known for authoring the city’s controversial anti-gay law, which came into effect last year, initiated a probe into the case. He claimed that Madonna violated Russia’s tax and migration legislation by performing on the wrong type of visa and, consequently, failing to pay applicable taxes on her fee.
“I don’t like that someone collected Russians’ money and didn’t pay taxes,” Milonov was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti wire service, adding that, according to his information, Madonna’s fee for the show was $1.1 million.
Later, the foreign ministry joined in, confirming that the singer’s visa did not allow her to give a commercial performance, the Russian daily Izvestia reported. According to the foreign ministry, Madonna arrived in the country on a single-entry three-month visa issued based on an invitation from the culture ministry and limiting the purpose of her visit to “cultural relations.” To be able to perform, Madonna should have obtained a work permit, the foreign ministry said.
Madonna’s performance in St. Petersburg stirred controversy as during the show the singer supported the city’s gay community against the newly adopted law and also voiced support to the jailed Pussy Riot members, whose trial was in progress at the time. In the wake of the show, a group of the city’s residents tried to sue the singer for the violation of the anti-gay law, but lost.
Now the prosecutor’s office is to rule if Madonna violated Russia’s migration and tax legislation. The agency wouldn’t comment on the issue.

Madonna’s Brother Is NOT Living In A Material World

Anthony Gerard Ciccone, better known as Madonna’s older brother, is in trouble with the law once again. Ciccone’s most recent brush with the law came last night in a bar in his hometown of Traverse City.

While his sister is a multi-millionaire, he’s a homeless drunk, bumming around from bar to bar in Traverse City, which is what he was doing last night when he allegedly got into a fight with a female police officer who tried to get him to leave a bathroom after a long night of boozing. Police say Ciconne had an outstanding warrant for trespassing.
Ciconne was also reportedly injured in the struggle and when taken to the hospital, his blood alcohol level was a .40, nearly 5 times the legal limit.
Ciconne is to be charged with a felony for resisting a police officer…..and is being held in jail without bond.

Madonna, Material Girl Collection and Macy's are offering consumers the ultimate insider experience with the unveiling of a thrilling one day pop-up fashion exhibit, "Madonna's Fashion Evolution" at Macy's in Century City, California. On Thursday, April 25th, from 6-8pm, several of Madonna's most iconic fashion items including her infamous Jean Paul Gaultier cone bra corset from her Blonde Ambition Tour, her Reinvention Tour ensemble by Christian Lacroix, her "Like A Virgin" wedding dress, and other legendary pieces will be on display for fans to get a firsthand view of the evolution of Madonna's fashion. The exhibit will take place surrounded by the hugely successful fashion forward Material Girl line that Madonna created exclusively for Macy's with her daughter, Lola.

Madonna personally handpicked eight of her favorite costumes from a vast archive of tour costumes and her personal collection for the one day pop-up exhibition. Madonna and the Material Girl team went to great efforts to gather these iconic pieces for the exhibition, which marks the first time these items have been displayed together for the public to view. The cone bustiers were flown in from a Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit in Amsterdam, her "Like A Virgin" wedding dress is on loan from the legendary Hard Rock, while the remaining items are from Madonna's personal archives.

"The pop-up exhibit at Macy's perfectly exemplifies the inspiration and spirit of the Material Girl line and will give my fans a great opportunity to see the evolution of my style over the years," commented Madonna.

Arianne Phillips, Madonna's longtime collaborator, styled and helped to curate the exhibit. About the "Like A Virgin" wedding dress Madonna wore to the MTV VMA's in 1984, Phillips commented, "This was one of the most shocking, liberating and influential moments in pop culture/fashion history." "Fashion has never been the same. Bold and unforgiving, humorous and shocking, we can depend on Madonna to challenge us to rethink fashion. Madonna has taken sacred garments like the wedding dress and religious embellishments, and re-contextualized them," she added.

"It's a magical thing to bring all these iconic pieces together in one place," said Dari Marder chief marketing officer at Iconix Brand Group, Inc. "This will show customers how influential Madonna has been to fashion and how that influences Material Girl today," she added.

"We are so thrilled to bring this unique experience exclusively to Macy's customers," said Martine Reardon, Macy's chief marketing officer. "An homage to Madonna's revolutionary style and influence on our Material Girl collection, 'Madonna's Fashion Evolution' pop-up exhibit offers a rare opportunity to see some of her most iconic looks curated together in a never-before-seen display."

Macy’s to Exhibit Iconic Outfits

bat2_(9).jpg
The popstar is loaning out her costumes for an exhibit at Macy’s department store in Los Angeles to boost sales of her Material Girl juniors line. On display for just two hours, costumes will include Madonna's Jean Paul Gaultier-designed corsets from her 1990 Blonde Ambition concert tour and the beaded white Bob Mackie gown she wore to the 1991 Academy Awards.
“The pop-up exhibit at Macy’s perfectly exemplifies the inspiration and spirit of the Material Girl line and will give my fans a great opportunity to see the evolution of my style over the years,” Madonna told WWD.
The singer reportedly chose the outfits herself for the exhibit, with help from her long-time stylist and costume designer Arianne Phillips, who is overseeing its installation at Macy’s. It’s the first time Madonna has loaned out pieces from her own archives for a public display dedicated solely to her costume history.
Fans can also expect to see the printed neon green stretch skirt Madonna wore in the 1984 Borderline video, and the black satin bustier with gold nipple caps and tassels from the Open Your Heart video.
Perhaps Madonna’s single-most famous look in the exhibit dates back to 1984, when she donned a wedding dress and rolled around the floor of the MTV Video Music Awards to sing Like a Virgin. The entire ensemble will be shown, including a white lace corset, white tulle skirt with dot motif, white tulle veil, white lace fingerless gloves and a silver Boy Toy belt.
“It’s a magical thing to bring all these iconic pieces together in one place,” said Dari Marder, chief marketing officer at Iconix Brand Group, which is Madonna’s partner in Material Girl, selling it into 600 Macy’s doors currently. “This will show customers how influential Madonna has been to fashion and how that influences Material Girl today.”
Madonna's costume exhibition can be viewed at Macy’s Century City, Los Angeles, from 6pm-8pm this Thursday.

Lola dating 'Homeland' star Timothée Chalamet

Madonna’s 16-year-old daughter, Lourdes Leon, has been dating “Homeland” star Timothée Chalamet, who plays the vice president’s son Finn Walden on the hit “Showtime” series, Page Six can exclusively reveal.

The pair met at La Guardia High School of Music & Art & Performing Arts on the Upper West Side, where Timothée’s in the class of 2013. Lourdes, who is reportedly studying drama, graduates next year from the school, which was the inspiration for the 1980 film “Fame.”
A source told us, “It’s common knowledge at the school that the pair are dating.” When contacted about the teenage romance, a spokeswoman for Madonna declined to comment. Reps for Timothée didn’t get back to us last night.
New York Magazine recently featured Lourdes and Timothée, along with other students at the school, in its “Reasons To Love New York” issue, under, “Because La Guardia High School Is Still Churning Out Talent.”
Timothée also appeared in USA Network’s “Royal Pains,” but is best known for playing the son of Vice President Walden on “Homeland” who accidentally kills a pedestrian during a joy ride around Washington, DC, with Sgt. Nicholas Brody’s daughter Dana, played by Morgan Saylor.
Lourdes is Madonna’s daughter with actor and personal trainer Carlos Leon, who, incidentally, is marrying his Danish girlfriend Bettina Holtz this summer.
Leon, who starred in the 2011 movie “Immigration Tango,” is famously protective over Lourdes. He told People at the time of the film’s release, “I got the best thing out of that relationship, and that’s my daughter. My daughter is everything to me.”
He said Lourdes, then 14, wasn’t dating yet, but he knew it was coming: “I’m dreading it . . . because she’s my little girl. I want her to stay young forever. I’m already overprotective, so when the time comes, I will be ready to have a talk with the guy she brings through the door. He better be ready, because I’ll give him the rundown!”

Coachella: Three Delightful Days In The Desert Versus Two Hours Of Madonna

Despite a dearth of creature comforts compounded by rain, the mud, hovel-like overcrowding with attendant poor sanitation, and paucity of comestibles, a sense of camaraderie and intimacy pervaded this crowd of nearly half a million souls’ in quest of some ineffable musical experience. Legends came: Joan Baez, Arlo Guthrie, Joe Cocker, Blood Sweat and Tears, Ravi Shankar, the great Hendrix, the list too long to print. It was the end of a decade of anti-war revolution on college campuses from infamous riots at Berkeley to the even more disgraceful events at Kent State. And yet it ushered in an epoch of peace and love and non-violence by this “hippie” generation. It was the summer of 69’……1969 that is, and I am referring to Woodstock. Decades later many attendees wistfully recount satisfying their amorphous craving for transcendence…..but the more remarkable thing about this historic event, is despite the traffic jams, bad weather, and every other conceivable logistical nightmare, there was practically no violence.
Some History.  It was this antediluvian gesture, shorn of all accoutrements of modernity that arguably serves as a crude model for the giant carefully choreographed music festivals of today. The progression has not been linear…..far from it. A scant four months had elapsed before the already uber-famous Rolling Stones and the great debacle at Northern California’s Altmamont Speedway. Promoted by the Stones and Mick Jagger and billed as “Woodstock West”, in addition to the Stones, it was to feature Santana, Jefferson Airplane, Crosby Stills Nash and Young among others. Perhaps cultivating some image of machismo, The Hells Angels were hired by the Stones for security detail for the 300,000 concertgoers who showed up that fateful December 6. Violence, murder, and mayhem were the order of the day.

'Supernatural' was recorded during the  'Like A Prayer' album sessions and included as the b-side to the 'Cherish' single and was featured on the 'Red Hot & Dance' compilation which benefited AIDS research back in 1990.

Joey McIntyre's penchant for Madonna.

New Kids On The Block are getting ready for their package tour withBoys II Men and 98 Degrees. But first, they headed to Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live and spilled quite a few secrets! From famous hookups to craziest fan gifts to celebrity crushes, the guys didn't hold back!

Perhaps the most surprising?? Joey McIntyre's penchant for Madonna. He gushed:
“When I was 17, I was crazy about Madonna. I mean, who wasn't, but it was 1990. It was Blonde Ambitious Tour– Blonde Ambition Tour– and I was just nuts. I thought Warren Beatty was the same exact age-span that I was, so, I thought, yeah the other direction, and I saw her, and I went to her concert, and she winked at me from, and I was in the front row, and I was like… ehhhhahhh… And I got to meet her! I got to meet her and it was the end of her tour, and she was so sweet to me, and we danced together, and it was a beautiful thing.”

Madonna In Hot Water For Charity Dealings, Not Welcome As 'VIP': President Joyce Banda

madonna malawi note
Someone high up in the pecking order of Malawi is reportedly so mad at Madonna over her charity dealings that the superstar was stripped of her VIP status on a recent visit.
When the “Material Girl” finished her weeklong humanitarian trip on Saturday to the impoverished country, Madonna, her kids and her staff were diverted from the VIP section at the airport and forced to go through standard security checks with regular travelers, according to a Department of Aviation source, the Telegraph reported.
According to Trevor Neilson, president of Global Philanthropy Group –- the organization that oversees Madonna’s charity, “there was no ‘VIP Status’ to be lost,” he wrote in an email to The Huffington Post. “As anyone who has taken a flight knows, airports are always a hassle and this one is no different.”
While President Joyce Banda didn’t confirm that she had revoked Madge’s privileges, Banda complained to a reporter about the singer getting VIP access on her way in and about the way she treated the kids with whom she met during her visit.

"She just came unannounced and proceeded to villages and made poor people dance for her. And immigration officials opened the VIP lounge for her just because previously she enjoyed the VIP status," Banda told a journalist covering her trip, according to the paper.
Check out the Telegraph's full report about Madonna's trip here.
